I just ordered this from ThinkGeek. Like I mentioned a few days ago, this site has too many goodies that I want!

Coffee After Dinner

February 8th, 2010  |  Published in My Life

A couple of my friends have recently (as in the past couple of years) started drinking coffee after dinner, usually around 7pm. I just don’t get it, but as I understand, a lot of people do this. Granted, I really dislike the taste of most coffee. Is it because it’s just “something people do” or is it for the caffeine to stay up another few hours, as these friends also go to bed around 10pm or 11pm?

I do admit, that in the place of coffee, I do like tea, but I only drink tea a few evenings or mornings a week. Tea also has, on average, much less caffeine than a typical cup of coffee. I also drink Mt Dew most mornings for breakfast, but even that has only 1/3 to 1/2 the caffeine of a cup of coffee.

Anyways, the point I am trying to get at is that I cannot imagine drinking that much caffeine that late on a regular basis just for the sake of staying awake. A lot of this has to do with the fact that even without the extra caffeine I sleep much less than most the people I know.

So to fully summarize, I just don’t get it.

A Couple Issues with “Heroes: Season 2″

February 8th, 2010  |  Published in My Life, Television

I am currently watching “Heroes: Season 2.” I have two big problems with it, EXCESSIVE SUBTITLES and SCENE REUSAGE. Both of these require me to dedicate more time than needed to watch the show.

With series like “Heroes,” I like to watch them while doing housework, cooking, or programming. I typically listen to the dialog and look at the TV when it sounds like something interesting is happening (In fact, I am writing this article while watching season 2 episode 10). The issue with excessive use of subtitles is that I cannot do something productive while watching (unless I happen to speak the language being used). In writing this, I have had to rewind twice to catch a Japanese conversation between Ando and Hiro in Japanese that occured just after other conversations by characters in English!

My other issue is that when the show ends almost any scene with a cliffhanger, they replay a good part of the scene in the next episode just before resolving the cliffhanger. This seems to me to be a way of filling their 42 minutes without having to actually produce 42 minutes. I cannot think of another show that has wasted so much of my time with cliffhanger scene reusage AND “previously on…” scenes.

I guess my main point is that I watch a lot of TV series but I also want to watch them while doing other, productive tasks! Please just create a good show and don’t make me HAVE to read excessive subtitles or rewatch lots of previous scenes.

Obama Will Give You Money

February 3rd, 2010  |  Published in Uncategorized

I saw this advertisement on Facebook a few days ago.  Needless to say, I was very unhappy with it.  This isn’t so much a rant against Obama (as I am 99.99999% sure he had nothing to do with this advertisement specifically).  This is a rant against politicians in general who have the audacity to portray THEIR generosity by “being the benefactors of a specific group” while forgetting to mention that they are simply stealing money from one group and giving it to another.  When will the majority of the American public wake up and see that this isn’t “free money” but is instead their original tax dollars being given back to them.

ThinkGeek, How I Love Thee

February 1st, 2010  |  Published in Geek Toys, My Life

I went to ThinkGeek yesterday for the completely mature and normal purpose of buying myself a Magic Wand TV Remote.  I have been wanting one of these for a while.  Partially for the novelty and partially for the actual convenience of having one remote that is easy to carry around the house and will control my Roku, television volume, and power to a couple other devices.  I made an unfortunate discovery while at ThinkGeek though; they have a large number of things I fear I cannot live without.  Here is a short list of such items.
